Public Lands Day

National Public Lands Day is September 30, 2017, so now is a great time to start planning how you will participate!

National Public Lands Day happens annually on the last Saturday in September, organized by the National Environmental Education Foundation and is a day all Americans are encouraged to celebrate our public lands by enjoying all of the recreation opportunities, or by volunteering at a park.

Public lands come in all shapes and sizes all over the country. They include city and state parks, beaches, and federally managed lands like national parks and Bureau of Land Management (BLM) land. There are unlimited recreation opportunities at these locations and they are worthy of celebration. Public lands promote great connections between people, their community, and the environment.

Some of the volunteer activities available on Public Lands day include habitat restoration, trail building and maintenance, invasive species removal, and picking up trash. Public Lands Day is also a fee-free day on all federal public lands plus some state parks for those wanting to enjoy the great outdoors.
